EC Ma Ndryshe and RCCH Prizren start the drafting of the urban regeneration project of "Marin Barleti" street
On 28 May 2018, a Letter of Agreement was signed in the premises of Old Parliament (Beledije) for the drafting of the project "Revitalization and socio-economic integration of the local community on the Marin Barleti street" in the Historic Center of Prizren.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, Head of EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, Mayor of Prizren Municipality, Mytaher Haskuka, representative of the British Embassy, Chablise Stoner and Executive Director of EC Ma Ndyshe Edon Mullafetahu.
This project is coordinated by the Regional Cultural Heritage Center (QRTK) in Prizren and EC Ma Ndryshe, funded by MCYS, the EU Office in Kosovo, the British Embassy in Prishtina while supported by the Municipality of Prizren.
The main purpose of the project is to create a positive example of urban regeneration that will affect the preservation of the historic character of the city and provide optimal conditions for preserving the values of cultural heritage and sustainable local development.
The project consists of two main components, that of conservation and local development. Within the conservation component will be treated buildings with cultural heritage value, and rehabilitation and redesign of urban infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, urban furniture, public lighting, drainage, facades of new buildings and signage). Within the development component, consultative meetings and visionary workshops will be organized with all residents of the neighborhood as well as a plan for the maintenance of cultural heritage buildings will be drafted. In addition, a special focus will be on drafting development policies by supporting the owners of the area with creative business plan models and addressing the process of sustainable return from the perspective of economic integration of neighborhood residents.
The project is planned to last until the fall of this year.
