The supply of drinking water in the city of Prizren has recently been realized with the application of reductions, the Regional Water Company "Hidroregjioni Jugor" has announced. This company has informed the consumers that due to the unfavorable atmospheric conditions that have reigned for a long time, the water capacities in the potential water sources have been significantly reduced, and that the current energy crisis has made the supply even more difficult, taking into account the fact that drinking water is provided mainly through electropumping. Last week, the schedule of reductions with expansion in different areas of the city was published.

But the application of these reductions has caused dissatisfaction among residents. Even the citizens of the "Bajram Curri" neighborhood have expressed this dissatisfaction through the protest held on Monday, in front of the "Southern Hydroregion" offices, demanding the mitigation of the reductions.

EC Ma Ndryshe during 2021 has held a large number of meetings with residents of different neighborhoods in the Municipality of Prizren and in almost every meeting the problems with the supply of drinking water have appeared as primary. At the same time, during the monitoring of public discussions on the budget planning of the Municipality of Prizren for the year 2022, the request for drinking water was one of the requests expressed in almost every meeting.

EC reminds that drinking water according to the United Nations Organization is essential for the realization of all human rights. Water supply is a necessity for better health and human dignity, and as such represents a right that should be promoted. The right to drinking water means the right of all people to have access to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic use.

For these reasons, EC Ma Ndryshe calls on the responsible institutions to treat the issue of drinking water with great seriousness, in order to ensure a regular supply of drinking water and within hygienic-sanitary conditions for all residents of the Municipality of Prizren.
