World Wetlands Day marked with an educational visit to the Henc Wetland

On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, EC Ma Ndryshe organized an educational visit on Monday, February 2, 2026, to the Henc Wetland. The activity aimed to raise awareness and educate young people about the importance of wetlands as vital ecosystems for biodiversity and human wellbeing.
Through a practical approach, participants had the opportunity to become closely acquainted with the natural values of the Henc Wetland, its role in conserving biodiversity, and the challenges this areafaces due to pollution and climate change.
Within the framework of this activity, a thematic lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ekrem Gjokaj, focusing on the importance of wetlands, biodiversity, and the impacts of climate change. The lecture was followed by an educational walk in nature, during which participants observed plants, birds, and key elements of the wetland ecosystem.
The visit also served as a space for dialogue and reflection on the role of young people and the community in nature conservation.
The activity was carried out in cooperation with students from the International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM), highlighting the importance of joint engagement in the protection of wetlands, which, although they cover only about 6% of the Earth’s land surface, are habitats for approximately 40% of plant and animal species.
