Residents of the Arbana neighbourhood discuss safety and infrastructure issues with institutional representatives

In the Arbana neighbourhood of Prizren, EC Ma Ndryshe organized a meeting with residents, where issues related to public safety, infrastructure, and the community’s priority needs were discussed, with a focus on improving living conditions and strengthening cooperation between citizens and institutions.
The meeting was attended by residents of the neighbourhood, the representative of the Directorate for Emergencies and Security (DES) and coordinator of the Municipal Council for Community Safety (KKSB), Idaim Kryeziu, two officials from the Community Police, and the director of the “Ibrahim Fehmiu” School, Shqiptar Thaçi.
During the discussion, residents assessed that deviant phenomena in the neighbourhood have decreased compared to previous years, but emphasized that the continuous presence and supervision of security institutions remains important for maintaining order and safety in the community.
Residents presented a number of requests related to improving infrastructure and safety in the neighbourhood. Among these, the need to install road signage near the school was highlighted, as well as reducing the vehicle speed limit on the neighbourhood streets from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, with the aim of increasing the safety of pedestrians and students.
Concerns were also raised regarding the condition of the electrical network cables and poles, for which intervention by KEDS was requested. Residents also requested the creation of public spaces for recreation and community activities, emphasizing that the neighbourhood currently does not have such a space, apart from the memorial area.
During the meeting, the need to make hydrants functional and to develop evacuation plans in cases of emergencies was also discussed, as well as concerns related to environmental and water pollution.
The representative of the Directorate for Emergencies and Security, Idaim Kryeziu, informed those present about the role of the Municipal Council for Community Safety in strengthening cooperation between citizens and institutions. He emphasized that this mechanism aims to contribute to increasing safety in schools and public spaces, while also informing those present that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is in the process of drafting new policies to advance safety in educational institutions and the community.
This activity was carried out within the framework of the “Public Spaces 4 ALL” project, implemented by EC Ma Ndryshe, with the support of the German Government and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), through GIZ Kosovo.
